This minah/mat theory have been thoroughly discussed with my sister and her friend Nuri. I was with them the other day and we had this rather long talk about why some girls are mat magnet. Means mats simply love looking at them. I suddenly remembered about it because I happened to come across people talking about it online.

There are many different types of Malay girls in Singapore. Such as the following.
1) The pure Minah
2) The Minah looking girl but claimed she's not
3) The Minah looking girl who is actually far from it in person
4) The exotic looking Malay
5) The oriental looking Malay
6) The high fashion anglophile Malay
7) The cross-breed

My sister once asked me if she's pretty. So I asked her back why she asked me such a question. Her reply is because her good friend Nuri attracts Mats attention more whenever they walk together. My sis felt she wasn't on par with Nuri. It's not that my sister wants attention from the mats but she's just curious about why she couldn't get more attention from mats. I know my sis so well.. She wouldn't fall for a mat.

My reply to my sister is because she looked oriental. She look so CINA! Mats do not like cina-looking girls. Anyway have you ever came across a mat with a chinese looking gf? Rarely. And I so have to agree that Nuri is minah looking. Looked so Jawa. As for me, my step aunts and many others said I looked Indonesian, even Thais think so when I was in Bangkok.

In conclusion for this topic, it was agreed by us that mats love girls who fall under the 1-3 category of Malay girls mentioned above. No matter how much you try to deny that you are not a minah, you can't run away from the fact that you're a mat magnet. Because at the end of the day, you still look like a minah and that's that.
