I had a very interesting science lesson today about water. (I even scored well for my quiz and
my friend YL insult my intelligence before knowing my actual score! How dare You! I wanna scold you ; 'Cheese Pie!') My facilitator, (the forever smiling) Mr Erhan, showed us a very interesting clip showing a lizard running on water with it's 2 hind legs. It's very cute! Funny too actually. It made me recall how a friend of mine who's as thin as a lizard. She looks like the lizard in the clip when she runs. The lizard part was so interesting that I was engrossed in doing the research on how lizard ran on water without sinking. Here's why;
How Lizards run on water?The Jesus lizards, or basilisk lisards, accomplish the seemingly miraculous act of moving on top of water by generating forces with their feet that keep their bodies both above the surface and upright. They produced enough force to run on top of the water and they are light enough to avoid piercing the surface tension of the water. As they're running across water, they're constantly tripping. Like human, when we trip, one of our leg will catch our fall so this apply continuously to the lizard. The main principle that keeps them on top of the water is momentum. The relatively light weight of a lizard enables it to dash across water before it starts to sink. The lizards get part of their lift by rapidly slapping a foot down on the water. They also create air cavities in the water surface which they quickly step out of before the holes close. This is cause by the surface tension of the water.
